How are ratings calculated? To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don't use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2016 Verified Purchase I wanted to write a review of this Cake Boss turntable even though I didn't buy it from Amazon. I'd been eyeing this at my local Michael's arts and crafts store, but at $90 I didn't rush to buy it. My first turntable was the Wilton Trim N Turn, then I splurge on the Wilton Tilt N Turn when it came out (this has some heft to it; it was $80 at Michael's but got for less with 40% off coupon). So basically the ones I've used for years were made of plastic. Yesterday I went to Michael's to buy some cake boxes, then I found I had a 50% off coupon. Well, for 50% off, you got to buy a big-ticket item, right? :) So I decided to get the Cake Boss cast-iron turntable. I was finishing a cake order that very day, and so when I got home, I took this thing for a spin (literally!). Man oh man, I couldn't stop saying, "I can't believe what I've been missing!" This turntable is very very smooth, wow (compared to may plastic ones, anyway). It is 2-piece; the turntable slides off the base for easy washing. I've read reviews here about the base not being non-skid and that it slides all over the place when icing cakes, and it's true. And that was the reason I started thinking maybe I shouldn't get it. I was debating even after trying it whether to return it (I saved the box!). Then I thought, the base not being non-skid actually works in my favor in one instance--I can easily slide the turntable out of the way if I don't need my cake right in front of me at the moment. With my Wilton Tilt N Turn, I have to pick up the whole thing (turntable with cake on top) to move it out of the way because the base is very non-skid. So looking at it this way I thought maybe it's not a bad thing after all that this thing does not have a non-skid base (I used a small square piece of non-skid shelf liner under the base while I was icing my cake). Also, I was thinking that it would be easier to store this being that the table part comes off the base. I was also looking at the Ateco 613 and read that it is one piece. Then some reviews here said something about the underside of the turntable having some rough edges, and one even said she got cut while spinning it. So that kind of turned me off on the Ateco. Then there is the Fat Daddio turntable that everyone raves about. I looked it up on Amazon, and it was out of stock! That would have been worth considering. So for this Cake Boss decorating turntable, getting it at Michael's for 50% off ended up being the same price as on Amazon. And I got to take it home right away! 4.0 out of 5 stars A smooth operator... I wanted to write a review of this Cake Boss turntable even though I didn't buy it from Amazon. Images in this review Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2016 Verified Purchase This is a fantastic turntable for cakes. I have always used a really cheap one that had absolutely no frills, and I kind of didn't realize there was anything better. First of all... Rubber stoppers on the bottom so it doesn't slide at all... Brake switch to keep it stable while you decorate... Very smooth turning... And the top does have different texture as if hey think it will help your cake to grip on and not slide around. It doesn't really help. I resort to a wet paper towel under my cake board and that holds it all in place perfectly. Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2017 Verified Purchase first I was a bit skeptical about it, because I know buddy is an excellent pastry chef, but I wasn't sure about his products, so I give it a tried and I end up buying most of their product. their are excellent well made, do the work so nicely. he knew the real necessities for bakery. I love this decorating tools plastic, excellent! Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2016 Verified Purchase I like that you can lock the spinning plate. Its great if you will have the cake directly on the plate, but if you will be using a cake board, the non slip top is useless. The board slips off. you need to add something like non slip shelf paper to keep the cake board still. other than that, its great. Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2016 Verified Purchase This is a great cake turner. Makes decorating cakes much easier. Frosting is easier to smoothwhen you can hold your spatula and just spin. Then it locks in place with the flick of the switch on the front for steady decorating. I just wish they made a bigger one for my 14 inch cakes. Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2018 Verified Purchase only one problem the turntable is light and slides easily on a table top which makes it difficult to hold icing in one hand and try to turn switch underneath to on or off. I used one of my silicone cookie baking mats for it to sit on and it doesn't slide now. works great, I love it. I use it at least 3 times a week to decorate cheesecakes, cupcakes, novelty cakes etc. Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2019 Verified Purchase I have 2 of these, have had them for a few years now, still work perfect. Id love to have one of the expensive metal kind one day but this one has surprised me, held a cake well over 20lbs and still smooth turning. Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2017 Verified Purchase This is just okay, doesnt turn as smooth as I wanted it. Im not sure if it needs to get "broken in". Does its job but hate that turning is kinda stiff. Still worked 4.0 out of 5 stars Does its job but hate that turning is kinda stiff This is just okay, doesnt turn as smooth as I wanted it.
